Last year we purchased 20,095 electric cars and 2,706 electric motorcycles an increase from 2020 of 59% and 103% respectively. When it comes to EVs, Australia is behind every other country that can afford underpants - but they’re finally taking off. The long answer is also “Yes” plus the 2,900 words I’ve written below. This size of this increase raises the question: Is it possible for Australia to generate enough electricity to enable a rapid transition to electric road transport?
To electrify them all would require an increase in on-grid electricity generation of approximately 46%.
